Richard was diagnosed with Behcet’s disease in 1995, after 12 months of unusual symptoms, and his life was never quite the same again. He joined the Behcet’s Syndrome Society in 1996 and will be forever grateful for the excellent advice I received from the Helpline. He was a Trustee and then Secretary of the BSS for over 10 years until about 2011. Between 2011 and 2017, he was a Trustee and Honorary Treasurer for Genetic Alliance UK representing the BSS. He has also represented the Society at EURORDIS (the European organisation for people with rare diseases) from 2005 to the present time. He was nominated by EURORDIS as one of their two representatives at the Patient and Consumer Working Party at the European Medicines Agency, and I was there between 2010 and 2016.
Richard is looking forward to working with the other Trustees to help people with Behcet’s disease in the UK and to be involved in research work to understand more about Behcet’s disease.
